The Raio Tones & Circuits 70s Overdrive is an overdrive pedal and the first offering from That New Pedal Company, a maker based in Galicia, Spain. It is a deliberately simple two-knob design aimed at the sound of the earliest overdrive pedals, and Pedal of the Day described it as "perfectly recreating the original sound of the first" overdrives1.
What it does
The pedal keeps its controls to two knobs, Volume and Gain. Pedal of the Day found that these "make it easy to dial in a great sound that suits any rig or setup," with the range running from a signal boost through edge of breakup to classic rock tones1. For a player, that means no tone or EQ knob to work around: the character is set by the circuit, and the knobs set how hard it is pushed and how loud it sits in the mix.
The maker builds it with what Pedal of the Day calls "modern components: Neutrik connectors" and Hammond enclosures, so the vintage-flavored circuit sits in a sturdy, standard-format box1.
What reviewers said
Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal on 8 June 2022 and came away positive, describing it as having "a vintage sound that never goes out of style." On the maker's direction overall, the reviewer wrote: "if this is the direction they're headed in, we're 100% on board for it all"1.
