The Aftermath is an analog delay pedal from Rotosound, the British string maker that also put out a line of effects. It was part of a run of six pedals the company introduced, described by Guitar Interactive's Jonathan Graham as "the black Aftermath analogue delay"1. Rotosound's product page now lists the RAM1 Aftermath as discontinued2.

What it does

As an analog delay, the Aftermath sits in the delay pedal family, repeating what you play with the darker, softening character that analog circuits are known for. MusicRadar's Trevor Curwen, reviewing it, described the character plainly: "The repeats here are lo-fi and very dark compared with the dry sound"3.

The pedal's controls give what Rotosound calls "Smooth wide range control of rate, feedback and depth"2. The feedback control goes beyond ordinary repeats: Curwen noted that "the feedback knob can also get endless self-oscillation going, if you fancy some sci-fi or dub effects"3.

The circuit also includes an audio dynamics controller providing noise reduction, according to Rotosound's product page2, and a modulation section in the circuit. On the related Anarchy Audio Aftermath, Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described that modulation section as "Gliss/Warp"4.

What reviewers said

MusicRadar's review came down on the characterful side of the ledger, with reservations about the price. Curwen's verdict: "Give it a go if you like your delay dirty."3 The review summed up the pedal as lo-fi, retro-vibe delay tone with decent variety, but found the pricing prohibitive overall3.

Rotosound's Aftermath name also appears on the Rotosound RAM1 Aftermath and the Rotosound Aftermath Analog Delay. A separate Anarchy Audio Aftermath shares the name and the modulation-section design4.
