Ruach Amp Juice

The Ruach Amp Juice is a boost and overdrive pedal from Ruach, an Irish company that builds guitar products out of wood. It sits in the broad territory of boost pedals and overdrive pedals: a pedal that pushes an amp or another pedal harder rather than reshaping the tone from the ground up.¹

What it does

Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described the pedal's main function as providing "an easy way to balance volumes when switching guitars with unmatched outputs, while also offering extra punch for solos and choruses." In practice that is the classic role of a always-on or kick-on boost: set it so a quieter guitar matches a louder one, then step on it when a part needs to come forward.¹

The circuitry is analog, and the design stages gain across several discrete preamp stages. As the product page put it, the discrete preamps exist "to provide the perfect amount of drive and compression," giving the pedal its gain in steps rather than all at once.¹

Build and enclosure

The Amp Juice departs from the usual metal box. Its enclosure is hardwood, shaped as Ruach's trademark teardrop, and the company shapes each one by hand in its Northern Ireland workshop.¹
