The Screwed Circuitz Flip Out Fuzz + Resonant Filter is a fuzz with resonant filter from Screwed Circuitz, a Montreal one-man pedal (and synth) company. It combines three things in one box: a fuzz that runs from warm tones into overdriven undertones and on to distortion, a very prominent active resonant low pass filter, and a momentary Flip Out effect on the left footswitch. It is built for guitar, bass or synth, and each unit is entirely hand made.1
What it does
The fuzz side covers a wide range. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes it as going "From a warm fuzz to over driven undertones reaching distortion through its very prominent active resonant low pass filter," so the filter is not a subtle tone control but a central part of the sound, sweeping and resonating as you push the fuzz harder.1
The Flip Out effect is the pedal's second character. It is engaged momentarily through the left footswitch, so it only sounds while you hold the switch down. De Gregorio describes it as "A tunable high rate digital effect produced by amplitude-shift keying in the form of on-off keying," a stuttering, gated texture that sits alongside the fuzz and filter rather than replacing them.1
Because it accepts guitar, bass or synth, the pedal can sit at the front of a guitar board, work as a bass fuzz, or process a synthesizer line. For more on the effect family it belongs to, see Filter Pedals and Fuzz Pedals1.
Build and bypass
The enclosure is handcrafted in solid mahogany, and the pedal is entirely hand made. Signal routing is true bypass, with a volume out, so the pedal is out of the chain when switched off.1
