The Sentimental Bob Electronics Lunana is a 4-knob tap tremolo, a tremolo pedal that shapes volume in repeating waves and lets you set the speed by tapping. Guitar Pedal X describes it as "a somewhat larger 4-knob Lunana Tap Tremolo that emerged a couple of years earlier" than the maker's later Tacana, whose first edition appeared in early 20181.
Where it came from
The Lunana name arrived at the start of 2016. Before that, Guitar Pedal X notes, "that format only got a proper name at the start of 2016": the same tremolo circuit had been sold under unique custom artwork editions, including "Amsterdam Roofs", "White Whale", and "Surfing Tremolo"1. In other words, the Lunana is the named, regular version of a design Sentimental Bob had already been building in one-off decorated runs.
How it sits next to the Tacana
The Lunana is the earlier and somewhat larger of the two pedals, with four knobs and tap tempo; the Tacana followed a couple of years later as a smaller 16-waveform amplitude tremolo with tap tempo1. Players comparing the two are effectively choosing between the maker's original full-size tremolo format and its later, more compact sequel.
