The Klinger Fuzz Bee is a fuzz and treble booster pedal that keeps the original's two-circuit design but is hosted in an enclosure that's about 1/4th of the original1.
What it does
The pedal carries two separate circuits, a Boost and a Fuzz, and the two can be stacked on top of each other. In Delicious Audio's words, "the two circuits can be stacked on top of each other, with earth-shaking results"1.
The controls are laid out so that each circuit has its own set of knobs1:
- The first knob on the left controls the Boost1.
- The other three knobs control the Fuzz1.
- The right footswitch alternates between the Boost and the Fuzz1.
A toggle switch on the right panel offers two different voicings for the fuzz: a darker, fuller one, and a brighter one that takes out a lot of bass1.
Where it came from
The original Roland AF-100 BeeBaa combined a treble booster and a fuzz in one large unit, which is part of why it was described as cumbersome. Klinger's clone reproduces that design in a much smaller enclosure, about a quarter of the original's size, while keeping the stacking Boost and Fuzz circuits and the voicing switch1.
How it compares
The Klinger Fuzz Bee sits in a wider family of bee-named fuzz pedals. If you are comparing options, other pages cover the GUP Tech Bee Fuzz, which has a Bzzz knob that increases fuzz and definition and a Bias control that together produce what its maker calls a "Fuzzy Velcro Tone"2; the GUP Tech Bee Fuzz Douche Edition, described by its maker as a modern silicon fuzz with a lot of controls3; the Fulltone Queen Bee; and Beetronics' limited edition bee pedals, the VEZZPA Octave Stinger and the Swarm Fuzz Harmonizer.
