The Shin-ei Companion ME-7 is a vintage multi-effect unit made in Japan by Shin-ei in 1975. TONEHOME lists it as the "Companion ME-7 Multi Effect Wah - Hurricane - Siren - Surf", a multi-effects pedal built around a wah with three named effect modes: Hurricane, Siren and Surf1. It belongs to the same family of effects as a wah-wah pedal, with additional sound modes selected on the unit itself.
What it does
The ME-7 is a combination unit: a wah effect plus three additional effect voices, which Shin-ei named Hurricane, Siren and Surf1. A player working with one selects between these modes on the pedal itself, rather than stacking separate wah and effect boxes on a board. As a multi-effect from the mid-1970s, it predates the digital multi-effects pedals that came later, and it was built at a time when Shin-ei was producing its Companion line in Japan1.
Documentation
A schematic for the Shin-ei Multi Effect ME-7 is available as a PDF from TONEHOME, which is useful for owners servicing or repairing the unit1.
