The Sobbat DB-Bass is a bass distortion pedal from the Japanese maker Sobbat. It sits in the distortion family alongside guitar-oriented distortion pedals, but it is voiced for bass, where the usual problem with drive is losing low-end weight. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as "a unique distortion with a very thick and strong sustain," and says its wide frequency range makes it usable across styles: "From neo fusion solo to outstanding riff work, hyper distortion captures it all!"1
What it does
The DB-Bass takes a bass signal and adds distortion while, in Sobbat's description, keeping a wide frequency response so the low end and the drive character both come through. The maker also notes it is "really good for Active, and passive single coil P.U.", meaning it is intended to work with both active basses and passive single coil pickups, the two input types that most often give drive pedals trouble1.
For a player, that places it among bass pedals aimed at sustained, aggressive tones: solos that hold their note, and riff work that stays defined rather than turning to mush. It is a straight distortion, not an overdrive or fuzz, so the character is fuller clipping rather than a soft push or a gated, splattery texture1.
Power
The pedal runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws 10mA1. That is a light enough draw for any standard pedalboard supply.
