The Sonicake BBD Wonder is an analog delay and modulation pedal built around bucket-brigade (BBD) circuitry. Sonicake says its pure analog circuit design "faithfully reproduces the classic BBD delay sound," and the pedal carries four MN3005 BBD chips for a maximum delay time of up to 1200ms1. On top of the delay, it offers two modulation effects, chorus and vibrato, freely switchable from an onboard push-button12.

Delicious Audio covered the launch on 2 October 2026, describing it as "merging classic bucket-brigade topology with modern performance features"2.

An analog delay with chorus and vibrato

The BBD Wonder combines two effect families in one box. The delay side is a bucket-brigade design: the signal is passed along a chain of capacitor "buckets" (the MN3005 chips), which is how classic analog delays worked before digital conversion took over. Sonicake says the result is up to 1200ms of "authentic analog delay... merging vintage character with modern control"3.

The modulation side adds chorus and vibrato, two effects that are themselves built from short delay times. An independent review at Rockman.fr notes that a BBD "is the basis component of all the analog chorus effects (25ms delays with an excellent Signal to Noise ratio)"4. In the BBD Wonder, an onboard push-button toggles between the two modulation modes; Delicious Audio reported that it "lets you toggle seamlessly between lush chorus and vibrato modulation effects"2. For more on the effect types, see the Chorus Pedals and Vibrato Pedals pages.

Controls and connections

The pedal is a dual-footswitch design, with a main switch and a dedicated TAP footswitch351.

Control or connectionWhat it does
Main footswitchEngages and bypasses the effect, true bypass2
TAP footswitchSets tempo, supports 3 note subdivisions1
Modulation push-buttonToggles between chorus and vibrato2
Expression inputExpression pedal control over delay time3
Dry outputDedicated dry signal output3

The tap tempo footswitch supports three types of note value response1, so repeats can lock to different subdivisions of your tempo. The expression pedal input lets you sweep the delay time with your foot while playing, and the dedicated dry signal output lets you route your unaffected signal separately from the delayed one3.

Power and practical notes

The power adapter is not included. The pedal runs on DC 9V center negative and draws 125mA, so you will need a 9V supply with the correct polarity before you can use it1.

The enclosure is metal, which Delicious Audio described as "a robust metal enclosure housing true bypass circuitry" that keeps your core tone uncolored when the pedal is disengaged2. At 124mm deep, 90mm wide and 54.8mm high, and 394g, it is a standard-size stompbox rather than a mini pedal1.

Where it came from

Sonicake announced the BBD Wonder in late 2026. Delicious Audio reported the launch on 2 October 2026, highlighting the four MN3005 chips, the tap tempo, the chorus and vibrato modulation, and the true bypass21. The MN3005 chip itself is a vintage part: Rockman.fr's review notes that BBDs of this kind are the basis of analog chorus, with short delays in the 25ms range that can be pushed up to 200ms, which is why the BBD Wonder needs four of them to reach 1200ms41.

What reviewers said

Published coverage of the pedal is still early. Delicious Audio's launch report framed it as a bucket-brigade design with modern features, quoting its "robust metal enclosure housing true bypass circuitry"2.

Sonicake also makes other modulation pedals, including the Sonicake Cloud Chorus and the Sonicake Warped Dimension, a multi-modulation pedal that Delicious Audio added to its best multi-modulation pedals article in April 2024.

Questions

Is the Sonicake BBD Wonder true bypass?

Yes. Delicious Audio reported that the pedal's metal enclosure houses true bypass circuitry, so your core tone stays uncolored when the pedal is disengaged. Sonicake's own product page confirms the robust metal enclosure design.

How long a delay time does the Sonicake BBD Wonder reach?

The pedal is equipped with four MN3005 BBD chips and reaches a maximum delay time of up to 1200ms, which Sonicake describes as authentic analog delay merging vintage character with modern control.

Does the Sonicake BBD Wonder come with a power supply?

No. The power supply is not included. The pedal runs on a 9V DC center negative adapter, which you need to supply separately.

Can the Sonicake BBD Wonder run on a battery?

The pedal is specified for DC 9V center negative power, and the adapter is not included, so plan on a 9V DC supply with the correct polarity.

How many note values does the BBD Wonder tap tempo offer?

The dedicated TAP footswitch supports three types of note value response, giving you three note subdivisions to choose from when setting your delay repeats in time with the music.

Can I control the BBD Wonder delay time with an expression pedal?

Yes. Sonicake states that the pedal supports expression pedal control for delay time, alongside a dedicated dry signal output, so you can sweep the delay time with your foot while playing.
