The Ictineo Preamp/EQ is a bass preamp and tone shaping pedal from Southampton Pedals. Delicious Audio describes it as "Southampton's remake of a classic and near impossible to find bass preamp and tone shaping tool", putting a circuit that players once had to hunt for into a pedalboard friendly format. The name is pronounced Ik-tin-ee-oh.1
Although it is built around bass, the pedal is not limited to it: it works on guitar, bass, keys and other instruments, so it can sit on any board as a tone shaping stage. Its controls are a set of body and tone controls for fine tuning your sound.1
"The Ictineo truly is a set-it-and-forget-it always-on tool which should be in every players arsenal."
That set-it-and-forget-it framing tells you how the pedal is meant to be used: dial in a tone with the body and tone controls, leave it on all the time, and let it shape everything passing through it rather than switching it in and out like an effect. Players looking at it alongside other tone shaping tools may also want to compare it with equalization pedals and boost pedals, which occupy similar always-on roles on a board.
