The Bifurcator Dual Overdrive is a dual overdrive pedal from Vntage Tone, a boutique pedal builder based in Mexico. As the name suggests, it houses two of the company's drive circuits in one enclosure, running in parallel: the Klon-style Prometheus and the VT 4558 Screamer1. If you are weighing one drive pedal against two, or wondering how a dual overdrive differs from a single overdrive pedal, the Bifurcator's approach is to give each circuit its own footswitch so both can be used separately or together.
What it does
The two sides of the pedal are distinct circuits with their own control sets1:
| Side | Circuit | Controls |
|---|---|---|
| Right channel | Klon-style Prometheus | Gain, plus a Body control added to the classic 3-knob layout1 |
| VT 4558 side | VT 4558 Screamer | Tone1 |
The Prometheus side follows the Klon-style layout but adds a Body control for extra tone shaping beyond the original's three knobs1. The VT 4558 side carries the Tone control of the Screamer circuit1.
The two circuits have dedicated footswitches and can be stacked on top of each other, with the Klon channel first in the chain1. That means you can run the Prometheus alone, the VT 4558 alone, or push one into the other for a heavier combined drive, in the order the pedal fixes internally.
