The Way Huge Effect Pedal is a fuzz pedal, and its name is more plain than its pedigree suggests: as gearnews reported when it was announced, "the Effect Pedal is actually the Swollen Pickle fuzz pedal"1. In other words, this is the Swollen Pickle, one of Way Huge's best-known fuzz designs, released under a stripped-back nameplate.
What it does
The Effect Pedal delivers the Swollen Pickle's fuzz voicing, the circuit Way Huge has since spread across a family of pedals: the full-size Swollen Pickle Jumbo Fuzz MkIIS, the compact Smalls Swollen Pickle Jumbo Fuzz, the Russian Pickle and the Pork & Pickle bass overdrive and fuzz. For a player, the practical takeaway is that anything true of the Swollen Pickle's place in the Way Huge range applies here too, and the Swollen Pickle product pages cover the controls and circuit in detail1.
Release
The pedal appeared in a second wave of releases timed to The Pedal Movie, announced alongside new pedals from Way Huge, Walrus Audio, Z.Vex and Chase Bliss Audio. That wave of pedals was released on 23 February 20211.
