The Wrightsounds SuperBoost is a boost pedal from the small builder Wrightsounds, run by Matt Wright. In an interview with Stompbox Book, Wright said, "I made a SuperBoost a few years ago," and described the circuit as simple and hand-wired1.
What it does
A boost pedal raises the level of a guitar's signal, and the SuperBoost is built for that job rather than for coloring the tone. Wright described its character plainly: "I think of it as an 'old man' pedal; it's not a head-turner, per se, but it is useful." He added that a lot of people use it at the front of the signal chain to drive the signal through1.
That placement matters in practice: a boost at the front of a chain of overdrive pedals, fuzz pedals or an amp's input pushes whatever follows it harder, which is the use Wright describes players putting it to1.
Availability and context
Wright was candid about the pedal's standing in the Wrightsounds range: "It's not a huge seller, by any means"1. He described it as "an 'old man' pedal; it's not a head-turner, per se, but it is useful," noting that a lot of players run it at the front of the signal chain to drive the signal through1.
The SuperBoost comes from a small builder, and Wright's comments date from November 2018.
