chorus

Chorus is a modulation effect that splits the guitar signal into a dry and a duplicated wet signal, then slightly detunes and delays the wet copy before blending it back with the original12. Delay times are typically in the 20 to 50 millisecond range, longer than a flanger's, which gives the effect a bigger sound32. The result can range from subtle thickening of a tone to a glassy, sharp roar, and is often used to shape or widen a stereo image45. In a rig, chorus is most commonly placed after overdrive and distortion pedals but before time-based effects such as delay and reverb6. Chorus pedals have been a bass staple since the 1970s, when they gained popularity among fusion and prog-rock players7.
