Glossary
dry signal
The dry signal is the unprocessed guitar signal that passes through or alongside an effect, separate from the processed wet signal1. Effects such as phasers and choruses generate their sound by mixing this dry signal with a phase-shifted or modulated wet signal213. In delays and reverbs, an analog dry signal path is often highlighted as a way to keep the original tone uncolored and uncompromised45. Preserving the dry signal's integrity is also a design point, as in the Deluxe Memory Man, where only the feedback signal was chorused6. Some pedals allow the dry signal to be killed or cut entirely for fully processed sounds78.
