mid scoop
Mid scoop is a reduction of midrange frequencies in a pedal's voicing, most often associated with fuzz and distortion circuits1. Sources use the term to describe how much a circuit dips the mids, ranging from a light or mild scoop23 to a pronounced one41, and it is frequently noted as a signature trait of Big Muff style fuzzes56. A mid scoop can emphasize the top end and bass, giving tones a massive or spacious quality71, while circuits with a less pronounced mid scoop are described as more present, articulate, or tighter in the low end893. Some pedals offer a variable mid scoop control to tailor the dirt section's tone10, and one fuzz includes a mid scoop/boost toggle11.
