monophonic
Monophonic describes an effect that tracks or processes only one note at a time, with no polyphony1. It appears most often in octave and synth-style pedals, where a monophonic sub-octave or synth tone is generated from the input signal234. Because analog octave effects are monophonic, they work best with single notes, and chords or double-stops can glitch or sound chaotic567. The term also describes monophonic MIDI guitar conversion and monophonic synthesizer tones89.
