MOSFET

MOSFET is a type of transistor used in effects pedal circuits, appearing in boosters, overdrives, and distortions¹². In clean boosts, MOSFET-based circuits provide high gain with minimal tone coloration¹³. In drive pedals, MOSFET designs are described as delivering saturated, amp-like tones with touch sensitivity normally associated with tubes⁴⁵⁶. MOSFET gain stages can also yield compressed, higher-gain overdrive from edge-of-breakup grit to distortion⁷⁸, or tight, crunchy and harmonically rich hi-gain sounds⁹¹⁰. Compared with silicon, a MOSFET is described as similar but sweeter and crunchier¹¹.
