pitch shifter

A pitch shifter is an effect that shifts the signal's pitch, cutting the signal into slices with an array of alternating delays and playing them back at a different speed1. It can be used like an octave pedal but is more versatile because it can add harmonies, and many are polyphonic2. Because it relies on delays, any pitch shifter always introduces a little latency to the signal1. It has been a pedalboard staple since the '70s, used by players from Tom Morello to Jonny Greenwood3.
