printed circuit board
A printed circuit board, or PCB, is the board inside a pedal that holds and connects its electronic components.1 In effects pedals, PCBs come in different layouts and construction styles, such as double-sided boards with SMD components for efficient manufacturing, or vintage-spec Phenolic resin boards with through-hole parts.23 Circuit designs are often identified or compared by their PCB, with pedals described as sharing a PCB similar to another model or using a dedicated PCB instead of stripboard construction.41 A single circuit can also use multiple PCB layouts across versions, as with at least five different layouts in one Big Muff version.5
