Glossary
rack unit
In guitar effects coverage, the term is used to describe classic units like the TC Electronic 2290 Dynamic Digital Delay from 19851, the Roland SDE-3000 from 19832, the Korg SDD-3000 from 19823, the Ibanez DM20004, the DeltaLab DL-4 from the mid eighties5, and MXR's 1970s Flanger/Doubler6. Many modern pedals are described as emulations, recreations, or reissues of these rack units in pedal form, keeping the original sounds while changing the format762. The sources also use the term for studio processors, such as the Yamaha FX500 multi effects processor, described as a late 80s rack unit8, and for hardware with features like dedicated filter controls and connections for remote foot pedals9.
