vibrato

Vibrato is a modulation effect that changes the pitch of the sounded tone through frequency modulation, similar to wiggling a whammy bar, which is correctly called a vibrato bar1. Pedals such as the Boss VB-2 create vibrato with true pitch modulation, letting players produce consistent, controlled vibrato like that of fretless instruments such as violin and cello, and apply it to full chords without a whammy bar2. Vibrato appears as a mode or feature on many modulation and delay pedals, often alongside chorus, flanging, Uni-Vibe, and rotary speaker sounds345. At extreme settings, vibrato pedals can also produce warble sounds and dramatic special effects2.
