The Mocker is a fuzz pedal from Aclam Guitars that reproduces the built-in fuzz circuit of the Vox UL730 amplifier. Aclam calls it a faithful replica of the internal fuzz circuit of their own VOX UL730, serial number 3042, and an extended version of the original Vox UL series fuzz circuit that retains its essence1. Where the original amp's fuzz had a preset low pass filter, Aclam replaced the fixed resistor in that path with a Tone potentiometer, turned clockwise for a brighter sound1.
Production of The Mocker has continued beyond its first units: units from serial number 201 upwards carry power management protection that lets you know if you are overpowering the pedal or using a reverse polarity power supply1. The pedal is covered by a two-year warranty from the purchase date, under the conditions and supporting evidence regulated by Spanish Legislation, non-transferable and requiring proof of purchase and the serial number1.
The Vox UL730 fuzz in a pedal
The Vox UL series amps carried a fuzz circuit built in, and The Mocker reproduces the one inside Aclam's own VOX UL730, serial number 30421. The pedal is an extended version of the original circuit: Aclam kept the essence of the UL series fuzz but replaced the fixed resistor in its preset low pass filter with a Tone potentiometer, so a player can now turn clockwise for a brighter sound where the original amp was fixed1.
The clipping comes from New Old Stock Philips OA200 diodes wired for hard clipping, the very same diode type found on the UL amp series1. Pedal of the Day described the result as "a seemingly simple three-knob fuzz distortion" and called it "another masterpiece"2.
"The Mocker is based on the built-in fuzz circuit of our own 1966 VOX UL730, S/N 3042."
The controls: Bias, Tone and Vol
Three knobs and a footswitch run the pedal1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| BIAS | Fine tunes the operating point of the second transistor, changing the fuzz behavior from gated to compressed1 |
| TONE | A potentiometer replacing the original amp's fixed low pass filter resistor; clockwise is brighter1 |
| VOL | Controls the overall volume of The Mocker1 |
| BYPASS SWITCH | Engages the unit, allowing the signal to flow through the fuzz circuit, and lights the LED1 |
The Bias knob is the heart of the pedal. Aclam describes three distinct regions124:
- Counterclockwise: the fuzz becomes gated and spluttery, with notes decaying quickly to dead silence, the behavior found on the Vox UL7301.
- Clockwise: an open tone with plenty of gain and sustain, which Aclam says is the tone the Vox UL series had when it left the production line in 19661.
- Fully clockwise: more compressed, with what Aclam calls a sort of PWM component, ideal for high gain solos and lead parts1.
Pedal of the Day found the Bias control "capable of landing on so musical terrains, from vintage to modern, by tweaking a single knob"2, and Delicious Audio likewise noted the Bias and Tone controls can take the pedal from vintage to modern5.
Power and connections
The Mocker runs on a 9V DC center negative supply with the standard Boss type 2.1mm connector, drawing about 12mA, and the manual calls for a supply rated at 50mA minimum1. There is one input jack and one output jack1.
The Mocker has no battery option; it must be powered by a 9V DC negative tip power supply1. Units from serial number 201 and upwards include power management protection that warns you if you overpower the pedal or use reverse polarity1.
The enclosure is a custom light aluminum box with a hammered finish paint, designed to fit Aclam's Smart Track pedalboards, with side thumb screws that lock the pedal into place1. In the box you get the pedal, an anti-sliding rubber pad and a Velcro pad1. The pedal carries a two-year warranty from the purchase date under Spanish legislation, non-transferable, requiring proof of purchase and the serial number1.
History and versions
The Mocker's production did not stop at its earliest units. Units from serial number 201 upwards carry power management protection that lets you know if you are overpowering your pedal or using a reverse polarity power supply1. The manual itself is at version 1.2, and the pedal's reference number appears as AP0050 in the manual and AP0050-2 on the product page16.
Units from serial number 201 onwards differ from earlier units in one practical way: they carry the power management protection that warns of overpowering or reverse polarity1. The pedal uses a custom light aluminum enclosure with hammered finish paint, designed around Aclam's Smart Track fastening system, with side thumb screws that lock the pedal into Aclam pedalboards1.
A Scratch and Dent version of The Mocker (reference AP0050-B) appeared on Aclam's store with next day shipping, but was marked sold out as of October 20267.
The Beatles connection
Aclam ties the pedal's sound to the Vox UL series amps as they left the production line in 1966: with the Bias knob turned clockwise, the maker describes an open tone with plenty of gain and sustain, "the tone the VOX UL series had when they got out of the production line in 1966"1. The Tone knob, turned clockwise, gives a brighter sound than that fixed original voicing1.

Questions
Does The Mocker take a battery?
No. The Mocker is powered only by a 9V DC center negative power supply with the standard Boss type 2.1mm connector, drawing about 12mA. The manual specifies a supply capable of at least 50mA and makes no mention of a battery option.
Is the Aclam Mocker true bypass?
Yes. Aclam specifies Relay True Bypass for The Mocker. The bypass footswitch engages the pedal and lights an LED, letting the signal flow through the fuzz circuit when active.
Can The Mocker get Beatles Revolver-era fuzz tones?
Aclam says it can nail Beatles tones from the 1966 to 1967 era, especially paired with the company's Dr. Robert pedal. The circuit is a replica of the internal fuzz from Aclam's own 1966 Vox UL730, serial number 3042, the amp model The Beatles used on Revolver.
What diodes does The Mocker use?
New Old Stock Philips OA200 diodes, the same diode type found in the original Vox UL series amps, wired for hard clipping. The first run of 200 pedals used the first batch of NOS OA200s; a second genuine batch was later found near Manchester, allowing production to continue.
Is The Mocker still available?
The initial run of 200 units sold out in four days, but production continued after Aclam found a second batch of genuine NOS Philips OA200 diodes. A Scratch and Dent listing on Aclam's store was marked sold out as of October 2026.
