The Screaming Flamingo is a two-stage overdrive pedal from AJ Peat, described by the maker as among its most intriguing stompboxes1. While it straddles the line between overdrive and distortion, its defining feature is the ability to blend the two stages and produce distortion sounds all your own1.
What it does
The pedal gets its sound from a series of 3 op-amps, and Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described the result this way1:
"the pedal can produce some very Marshall-like tones rich in low mid frequencies"
The two stages can be blended together, which is what lets a player shape a distortion character rather than settle for one fixed voicing1. Tone and output volume controls round out the set1.
In the same write-up, De Gregorio judged that "it excels at lower gain blues and rock tones," which is where he found the pedal at its best1.
