The AMT Electronics B2 is a preamp and effects pedal: a single unit that carries an analog preamp stage, a selection of power amp types, speaker simulation and supporting effects. It is made by AMT Electronics, and the maker lists it as available now1. It belongs to AMT's line of compact preamp pedals alongside the O2, E2, M2, K2 and C2.
What it does
The B2's signal path starts with an analog preamp that offers three modes: Clean, Low gain and High gain2. That covers the range from an undistorted platform to heavier gain tones, depending on the mode selected.
After the preamp, the pedal provides a power amp stage with nine types2, followed by an IR-based cabinet simulation. The IR cabsim loads one impulse response for both the left and right channels of a preset2, so a preset's speaker sound is shared across its stereo output.
Around that core, the B2 adds:
- Compressor, for evening out dynamics before or within the chain2
- Noise Gate, set globally rather than per preset2
- Parametric Pre/Post EQ, which can be placed before or after the main stages3
The parametric EQ's pre/post placement means a player can use it to shape the raw signal going into the preamp or to fine-tune the finished tone after the power amp and cab sim3.
The Noise Gate is a global setting, so it applies across presets rather than being dialed in separately for each one2.
Where it sits
As a preamp and effects unit with IR speaker simulation, the B2 overlaps in purpose with AMT's other multi-function pedals such as the AMT Pangaea CP-100FX and the U-2 Pangaea Brain Frame Ultima, though the B2's analog preamp front end is its distinguishing feature2.
