The API TranZformer LX is a bass effects pedal from API: Automated Processes, Inc., the pro audio company best known for its consoles and outboard studio gear. It takes the circuit of the API 525, a feedback-type compressor, and adds a 3-band EQ, all built into a stompbox format aimed at bass players1.

What it does

As a compressor, the pedal uses the same feedback-type design as API's 525 studio unit, a circuit style in which the side chain listens to the output of the compressor rather than its input. API describes the pedal as combining that 525 compressor with a 3-band EQ "incorporated in a versatile bass effects pedal"1. For a bass player, that means level control and tone shaping in one box, built around a circuit that comes from API's studio line rather than from a guitar pedal design.

If you are new to compression, the Compressor Pedals page explains the effect type and how the different circuit designs compare.

The TranZformer LX is listed by API as discontinued1, so it is no longer in current production and any unit a player finds will be secondhand or remaining stock.

API lists the TranZformer LX among its discontinued products. The pedal is no longer made.

API also made other pedals in the TranZformer family, including the API TranZformer GT.
