The Belcat FLA-513 is a flanger pedal from Belcat, sold as part of a three-pedal effects pack alongside the DLY-503 Analog Delay and the TRM-507 Tremolo. A flanger mixes a delayed copy of your signal back with the original and sweeps that delay time, producing the sweeping, jet-like movement heard on countless records. For a primer on the effect itself, see Flanger Pedals.1
What it does
The FLA-513 keeps things simple with three controls:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rate | Sets the speed of the sweep |
| Regeneration | Sets the amount of feedback, affecting intensity |
| Depth | Sets how far the sweep travels |
MusicRadar's review team described the pedal's intent: "The Flanger, meanwhile, aims for that classic jet-plane-taking-off whoosh popularised by the likes of Eddie Van Halen."1
At different settings the pedal covers recognisable flanger territory. MusicRadar described Andy Summers-esque sparkle at faster rates and lower depths with clean tones, and a Leslie-type rotating speaker effect at faster rates.1
What reviewers said
MusicRadar's review team noted one characteristic of the pedal's sweep: "the Flanger's swoop hangs in the treble region longer than the bass." In other words, the sweeping movement is more prominent in the upper frequencies than in the low end, which is worth knowing if you are after an even sweep across the whole range.1
