The Blackstar HT-Boost BT-1 is a clean boost pedal, a pedal whose job is to raise your volume without changing your tone. MusicRadar's review team called it "just the ticket for a toneful clean boost" and judged that "The clean boost is excellent."1
What it does
As a boost, the BT-1 sits on your board to push a clean tone louder, or to drive an amp harder for more bite. MusicRadar's reviewer found that "Of all Blackstar's pedals this HT-Boost BT-1 one retains your amp sound most faithfully," giving "a huge volume hike to a clean tone without colouring your sound."1
The boost control works with the bass and treble controls to cut or boost your signal in those frequency bands, so you can shape the character of the lift as well as its size.1
Two outputs for two kinds of amp
Where other pedals in Blackstar's range carry an emulated out, the BT-1 instead gives you two outputs: one for use with solid-state or hybrid amps and one for use with all-valve rigs. The 'high' output is hotter, which the reviewer put down to not wanting to overload the front end of a transistor amp too much.1
Match the output to your rig: the hotter 'high' output is aimed at solid-state and hybrid amps, while all-valve setups take the other output.1
