The Cascade Pedals Hosstortion is a Mosfet distortion pedal voiced after the Ibanez MT-10 Mostortion, a short-lived pedal from the 1990s that was later rediscovered for its warm mids and three-band tone stack. Announced in March 2020 as Cascade Pedals' first production model, it retailed for $175 and came with a Lifetime Warranty12.
Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described the Hosstortion as taking "full advantage of this new chip to create an overdrive pedal with tons of output, warm mids, and lots of low-end"3.
From the Ibanez MT-10 Mostortion to the Hosstortion
The pedal the Hosstortion is based on has become hard to find. TONEHOME, an independent reference to vintage Ibanez pedals, lists the MT10 Mostortion as rare, with high collectibility4. It was a Japanese-made MOSFET distortion pedal originating in the 1990s2, and it holds a particular place in Ibanez's history: Delicious Audio notes it is "the only Ibanez pedal with a 3-band tonestack"5. The original wore the green enclosure of Ibanez's pedals of that era, and gearnews.com called the Hosstortion "an appealing homage to the original green Ibanez pedals"6.
Cascade's update keeps the original's voicing but changes the circuitry at its heart. The Hosstortion employs a modern BiMOS chip instead of the original CMOS op-amp, which allowed the builder to create a device with more output than the original while still maintaining the original tone-stack and sonic characteristics of the Mostortion3. gearnews.com describes the design as a CMOS op-amp based distortion, with BiMOS chips combining two formerly separate semiconductor technologies into a single integrated circuit6.
Controls and construction
Guitar.com's Daniel Seah reported that controls for the Hoss include a level and dirt knob for dialling in your gain7. The footswitch is described by Cascade as premium quality6.
The enclosure is a sparkle green with 3D printed graphics, made in homage to the original Mostortion1.

The Hosstortion has no battery option: it runs on 9-volt DC through a standard external jack, so plan for a power supply on your board1.
