The Aloft is a shimmer reverb pedal from Classic Audio Effects, a South Carolina builder of what Delicious Audio calls "their unique pedals." A shimmer reverb adds an octave-up, airy layer on top of a conventional reverb wash, and the Aloft is the company's take on that effect: as Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio put it when the pedal was shown at the 7th Brooklyn Stompbox Exhibit in September 2017, "The 'Aloft' Shimmer Reverb is the Classic Audio FXs spin on a shimmer reverb pedal."1
What it does
The pedal gives you separate control over the two halves of the effect. A Reverb knob sets the reverb amount, a Shimmer Level knob sets how much of the octave-up shimmer sits on top, and a roller control handles the mix between the processed and unprocessed signal.1
"Dial in the perfect reverb/shimmer ratio using the front facing pots and use the roller to blend the wet signal into your dry for just the right amount of angelic symphonies."
That split matters in practice: with reverb amount, shimmer level and mix each on its own control, you can run a deep reverb with only a whisper of shimmer, or a bright, prominent shimmer over a modest wash, without the two settings fighting each other1.
Key facts
Where it came from
The Aloft was introduced at the 7th Brooklyn Stompbox Exhibit, the New York pedal show where builders demo new designs, in September 2017.1 Classic Audio Effects builds other reverb designs as well, including the Classic Audio Effects Amethyst Reverb Mini and the Classic Audio Effects Yukon Reverb Roller, which share the company's interest in reverb pedals with unusual mix controls.
