The CME U6MIDI Pro is a MIDI router and filter made by CME. Unlike a delay, overdrive or other effect that shapes your guitar's audio signal, it works on MIDI data: the messages that let pedals, rack units and controllers talk to each other. A router and filter of this kind sits in the MIDI chain to direct messages where they are needed and to block the ones that are not, which matters on larger boards where several MIDI-equipped devices need coordinated control. It belongs to the wider family of MIDI pedals, alongside related CME products such as the CME MIDI Thru5 WC, a MIDI splitter for feeding several devices from one source.1
What it does
As a router, the U6MIDI Pro decides which MIDI messages go to which output, so one controller can address several devices without every device hearing every message. As a filter, it can remove unwanted message types, such as program changes or clock data, from the stream. RockBoard's PedalPedia lists the product as a "MIDI-Router and Filter" on its product page.1
Because the circuit is digital, the unit processes MIDI data rather than passing audio through it, so it does not sit in your guitar's audio path and does not affect your tone.1
