program change

A program change (PC) is a MIDI message that tells a digital pedal to switch from one preset to another1. It is used to recall saved presets on MIDI-capable pedals, such as the 128 preset slots on the Source Audio Encounter, which are accessed with MIDI Program Change messages2. Program change messages can be sent by controllers and switchers, like the One Control Crocodile Tail Loop OC10, which sends them to pedals that support MIDI3, or by a DAW over USB, as on the Source Audio EQ24. Some pedals, such as the Meris Polymoon, hide internal presets that can only be reached by sending the pedal MIDI Program Change messages5.
