The Coda Effects multi fuzz pedal is a prototype that puts three different fuzz circuits in a single fuzz pedal. Writing on the Coda Effects blog in January 2017, the builder described the idea as "a multi fuzz pedal, with no more than 3 different fuzz inside": a germanium Fuzz Face, a Muff Fuzz and a Companion Fuzz. On top of the three fuzzes, he added an upper octave generator that can be combined with any of them, in the manner of an octave and pitch pedal1.
This pedal never went on sale. The builder described it in January 2017 as "still in the development hell for a few reasons", and it remains an unfinished prototype rather than a released product1.
What it does
The three fuzz circuits were chosen to cover what the builder called the main flavors of fuzz. In his words, they "should provide the 3 main 'flavors' of fuzz in this world: a classic warm, soft fuzz face, a 'chainsaw', very raspy Companion Fuzz, and a compressed and heavy Muff Fuzz"1.
| Circuit | Character as described by the builder |
|---|---|
| Fuzz Face (germanium) | Classic, warm, soft fuzz |
| Companion Fuzz | "Chainsaw", very raspy fuzz |
| Muff Fuzz | Compressed and heavy fuzz |
| Upper octave generator | Combineable with any of the three fuzzes1 |
The top three knobs set the gain for each fuzz: the Fuzz Face (1969), the Muff Fuzz (1970) and the Companion Fuzz1.
Build and switching
The prototype fits in a 125B enclosure, and the builder added his own relay bypass system for soft switching and silent switching1.
The maker's blog also documents related fuzz projects, including a Big Muff PCB and a Black Keys Big Muff build, as well as the Dolmen Fuzz.
