The Cornerstone Nero Fuzz is a hybrid fuzz/overdrive pedal from Cornerstone Music Gear, an Italian boutique pedal builder1. Instead of putting a fuzz and an overdrive in series, it runs a fuzz circuit in parallel with a Dumble-style overdrive: the signal is split in two, fed separately to both circuits, and blended back together. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio notes that this lets the pedal recreate the studio trick of running fuzz pedals in parallel with overdrives, in a stompbox and with more control1.
The fuzz side is a mostly opamp-based take on the Fuzz Face-style circuit, and the overdrive side is derived from the company's bestseller Gladio, an amp-in-a-box inspired by the rare line of Dumble amps1. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, reviewing the pedal at launch, described it as combining a Cornerstone Gladio SC circuit with that Fuzz Face-style fuzz2, and later summed up the concept as one "where the core fuzz face voicing is tempered by the Gladio SC Dumble Drive circuit"3.
Why parallel matters
A fuzz into an overdrive in the normal series arrangement sounds very different from the two blended side by side. As Delicious Audio puts it, "bringing up that overdriven channel lends some extra sensitivity and dynamics to the fuzz tone, which is normally much more compressed"1. That is the whole point of the design: the overdrive side adds touch sensitivity and dynamics that a fuzz on its own tends to flatten out.
Guitar Pedal X included the Nero among its 2024 fuzz picks, calling it "a really smart take on the Classic Fuzz - for those who prefer that voicing tempered with a little overdrive action"4.
The controls
The Nero carries six knobs plus a remote switching port, all laid out on one panel2.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume | Master level4 |
| Gain | Fuzz/overdrive gain4 |
| Comp | Parallel Fuzz to Gladio mix: blends progressively more of the Gladio SC with the fuzz side, fully CCW is most fuzzy2 |
| Tone | Tone shaping4 |
| Bias 1 | Gritty to Smooth / Fuzz to OD: first half of the travel gives rough, gritty, more fuzz-like sounds CCW, smoother full-bodied overdrive sounds CW4 |
| Bias 2 | Second bias control, same Gritty to Smooth / Fuzz to OD sweep2 |
| Remote | Bias 1/2 switching port for external control1 |
The three bigger knobs, Volume, Gain and Tone, affect only the fuzz side, allowing more or less grit and a fair amount of sculpting1. The Comp knob acts as a volume that turns up the Gladio side, while the fuzz volume stays the same1.
Two voicings and the Voice footswitch
The Nero provides two different, adjustable voicings, switchable via the Voice footswitch1. Each voice has a separate knob that adjusts its bias, so you can set up two distinct fuzz characters and switch between them on the fly1. The footswitches are soft-touch, and Karlsson's launch review found the build quality high throughout: "Everything truly feels high quality here 'Deluxe even - including those soft-touch footswitches"2. The pedal also carries back-lit lights, including the main Cornerstone logo ident2.
Where the circuit came from
The overdrive half of the Nero is drawn from the Gladio SC, which Cornerstone describes as based on the first channel of its two-channel Gladio pedal, "with the exact same sound and controls"5. The Gladio itself is Cornerstone's amp-in-a-box overdrive inspired by the rare line of Dumble amps1. Delicious Audio reports that the fuzz circuit at the heart of the Nero found its way inside Cornerstone's first fuzz pedal, making the Nero the company's first entry into fuzz pedals1.
The Nero is a parallel-blend design, not a fuzz with an overdrive stacked after it. If you set Comp fully counterclockwise you hear the fuzz side alone; the Gladio SC side only comes in as you turn Comp up21.

Questions
What is the Cornerstone Nero Fuzz?
The Nero Fuzz is a hybrid fuzz/overdrive pedal from the Italian builder Cornerstone Music Gear. It puts a mostly opamp-based Fuzz Face-style fuzz circuit in parallel with a Dumble-style overdrive derived from the company's Gladio SC, splitting the signal in two and feeding each circuit separately before blending them back together at the Comp knob.
Is the Nero Fuzz based on the Gladio?
The overdrive side is. Delicious Audio describes it as derived from the Gladio, Cornerstone's best-selling amp-in-a-box overdrive inspired by the rare line of Dumble amps. Guitar Pedal X reports that the circuit combines a Gladio SC circuit with a Fuzz Face-style fuzz, with the Gladio SC tempering the core fuzz voicing.
What does the Comp knob do on the Nero Fuzz?
Comp blends the two parallel circuits. It acts as a volume that turns up the Gladio overdrive side, while the fuzz volume stays the same. Fully counterclockwise the pedal is at its most fuzzy, and turning it up brings progressively more of the Gladio SC into the blend.
What does the Voice footswitch do?
The Voice footswitch switches between two different, adjustable voicings on the fly. Each voice has its own bias knob, so you can set up two distinct fuzz characters and jump between them during a song.
Is the Nero Fuzz Cornerstone's first fuzz pedal?
Yes. According to Delicious Audio, the fuzz circuit at the heart of the Nero found its way inside Cornerstone's first fuzz pedal, making the Nero the company's debut in the fuzz category.
