The Womanizer is a preamp pedal from Damage Control that gathers several jobs in one box: compression, EQ, overdrive and a preamp for direct recording. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as equipped with "analog optical compression, Bionic EQ, and the best direct recording tones available," so a player can run it straight into a recording interface or an amp as the tonal heart of a rig1. It sits in the same territory as other preamp pedals, with the compression side of its design related to what dedicated compressor pedals and EQ pedals do on their own.

How the circuit is built

Damage Control describes the Womanizer's tube circuits as "four cascading gain stages to create the subtleties and nuances of a pure Class A combo." In the maker's words, "With pure Class A distortion, powered by cascading tube gain stages, the Womanizer cries out with all the emotive tonal charecter that a journeyman could desire"1. For a player, that means the gain structure is laid out like a small tube amp, with each stage feeding the next, rather than a single clipping stage like many overdrive pedals or distortion pedals.

Power requirements

The Womanizer runs on 9V DC, center negative, but it draws 2000mA1. That is far beyond what a standard pedal power supply or a daisy chain output delivers, so it needs its own dedicated high-current supply.

At 2000mA, the Womanizer cannot share a power supply output with other pedals and will not run from a typical multi-output brick. Plan for a separate high-current 9V DC supply.
