The Demeter COM-2 Compulator Pro is a compressor pedal from Demeter Amplification, announced on March 13, 2010. Demeter describes it as carrying "the same optical compression and sound of the original Compulator," the company's earlier optical compressor, but with more control over how the compression behaves. Optical compression uses a light-sensitive element to duck the signal, an approach associated with smooth, transparent level control. The pedals are handmade in Templeton, CA, using what the company calls the highest quality components1.
What it does
The Compulator Pro's main additions over the original Compulator are its Attack and Release controls. Attack sets how quickly the compression turns on when you play, and Release sets how quickly it lets go when you stop, so you can shape whether the pedal clamps down fast or breathes more slowly with your playing1.
Demeter also included an adjustable gain boost on a switch. The company positions it for two situations: when you want deep compression at the flip of a switch, or when you need to set up for two different instruments, such as moving between a guitar and a bass on the same board1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Attack | Adjusts how quickly the compression turns on1 |
| Release | Adjusts how quickly the compression turns off1 |
| Gain boost (switchable) | Adjustable boost for deep compression or a second instrument's level1 |
