The Devi Ever FX Soda Meiser is a fuzz pedal for guitar. Pedal of the Day identifies it as the Soda Meiser Fuzz guitar effects pedal from Devi Ever FX1. The same site's reviewer, Mike B, called it "an organic-sounding, smooth fuzz that can be amped up into dis-harmonic bliss with a turn of a knob"2, and in a later piece described it as "a glitchy, high-octave fuzz that can do nice, warm tones as well as big, fat, scary stuff as well"3.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume | Pedal of the Day calls it "a pretty easy knob to understand"2 |
| Pregain | Sets the character of the fuzz; the reviewer found "The range in the Pregain knob is HUGE, with a lot of spectral diversity and sonic unpredictability"3 |
| Chaos switch | On the older version, "an all-out noise switch, just sending your signal into a breakup frequency squealing weirdness awesome mess"2 |
The Chaos switch and versions
Not every Soda Meiser carries the Chaos switch. The Pedal of the Day reviewer wrote that he "was lucky enough to get an older pedal with the 'Chaos' flipswitch still on it"2, and in a later review of the related Shoe Gazer referred to "the awesome Chaos switch found on the solo Soda Meiser"3. In other words, the switch belongs to the solo Soda Meiser, and its presence depends on the version of the pedal.
"I was lucky enough to get an older pedal with the 'Chaos' flipswitch still on it, which is an all-out noise switch, just sending your signal into a breakup frequency squealing weirdness awesome mess."
What reviewers said
Pedal of the Day's verdict was positive on usability and range: "An easy to use pedal with a ton of range and some great heavy, chunky, fuzzy tones, the Soda Meiser is a great little fuzz box"2. The pedal sits in a wider Devi Ever FX fuzz lineup that includes the God Zilla, the Silver Rose, the BDSM and the Brown LP Overdrive Fuzz, alongside the Shoe Gazer. The circuit is also known outside the maker's own builds: a kit maker describes its American Pop Master build as a kit that "compares to the Soda Meiser by Devi Ever"4.

Questions
What does the Chaos switch do on the Soda Meiser?
On the older version of the pedal, the Chaos flipswitch is described by Pedal of the Day's reviewer as an all-out noise switch, sending the signal into a breakup frequency squealing weirdness. It is a feature of the solo Soda Meiser, and the reviewer who covered the pedal had an older unit that still carried it.
Does every Soda Meiser have the Chaos switch?
Not necessarily. The Pedal of the Day reviewer noted he was lucky enough to get an older pedal with the Chaos flipswitch still on it, which suggests the switch is not present on every unit. The Chaos switch is described as a feature of the solo Soda Meiser.
What does the Pregain knob do on the Soda Meiser?
Pregain shapes the amount and character of the fuzz before the output stage. The Pedal of the Day reviewer found the range in the Pregain knob is huge, with a lot of spectral diversity and sonic unpredictability, which is what lets the pedal move from warm tones into harsher, glitchier territory.
Is the Soda Meiser a fuzz or a distortion pedal?
It is a fuzz. Pedal of the Day identifies it as the Soda Meiser Fuzz guitar effects pedal from Devi Ever FX, and its reviewer describes it as an organic-sounding, smooth fuzz that can be pushed into dis-harmonic bliss with a turn of a knob.
