The Shoe Gazer is a fuzz pedal from Devi Ever FX, a company Pedal of the Day's reviewer described as "one of the leading companies in effects pedal fuzz now for years." It takes the company's Soda Meiser and adds a second fuzz circuit alongside it, so one enclosure holds two separate Devi Ever fuzzes: the Torn's Peaker on the left side and the Soda Meiser on the right side. Each side can be used on its own, and both can be engaged together1.
What it does
Each side has its own character. The reviewer described the Torn's Peaker side as a heavy, ballsy, super-distorted fuzz tone with compression and sustain, and the Soda Meiser side as a glitchy, high-octave fuzz with warm tones. With both sides engaged, the pedal combines the two: "Thick, dirty, nasty fuzz comes ripping out of the gates, combining the 70's distortion sounds of the Torn's Peaker with" the Soda Meiser's character1.
Running both sides together is not just a stacking option. The reviewer found it "adds that extra bit of crunch and punch when both sides are engaged together"1.
How it relates to the Soda Meiser
The Shoe Gazer is essentially a Soda Meiser with a second fuzz added. The standalone Soda Meiser carries a Chaos switch, which the reviewer called "the awesome Chaos switch found on the solo Soda Meiser." That switch did not carry over: "it's lack of inclusion on the Shoe Gazer was disappointing, and I hope it shows up on future versions"1.
The reviewer noted the change of hands at the company, "especially since our friends Dwarfcraft Devices bought them a few years ago," in the context of hoping future versions of the Shoe Gazer would add the Chaos switch1.
