The DOD FX-17 Wah-Volume is a pedal that combines two functions in one rocker unit: it works as a wah and as a volume pedal. It belongs to DOD's FX series of compact effects.
What it does
As a wah, rocking the treadle sweeps a filter across your signal for the familiar vocal effect; as a volume pedal, the same motion raises or lowers your level, useful for swells and for cleaning up between songs. The FX-17's distinguishing feature is how it senses treadle position. Chris "Spenny" Spencer explained the design in a rig rundown for Stompbox Book1:
"And because it works using two plates acting as a variable capacitor, there is never any crackling or noise when using it"1

That matters in practice: conventional volume and wah pedals often rely on a potentiometer that wears with use, producing crackle as the treadle moves. The DOD FX-17 instead works using two plates acting as a variable capacitor, so there is never any crackling or noise when using it1.
