The Drunk Beaver Bashtanka Muff is a limited-run fuzz pedal built on the recent Electro-Harmonix Big Muff 2 circuit, released on March 14, 2026 as the builder's Pedal Drop #37. Only 30 units were made, priced at $150 USD (also listed at 150 euros and 559 PLN)1. It is the work of designer Vitalii, who, according to Guitar Pedal X, wanted to explore the potential of that circuit1.
What it is and how it differs
The Bashtanka is, in Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson's words, "a mostly unadulterated take on the recent EHX Big Muff 2 circuit." Its one departure is a toggle switch that changes the voicing1:
"So all-in-all this is a relatively faithful copy - distinct for its Filter / Muff EQ toggle-switch."
The tone switch
The key modification is a tone switch that sits between two options: the standard Big Muff tone stack, or a simple low-pass filter. The low-pass filter option runs louder and does not scoop the mids, which is the signature voicing of the Big Muff tone stack1. In practice, that gives a player two distinct sounds from one pedal: the familiar scooped Big Muff character, or a fuller, louder voice with the midrange left in place.
What is inside
Vitalii made a few component choices that set the Bashtanka apart from a stock Big Muff 2 build1:
- Op-amps: MC4558, described as more high fidelity than RC4558 or JRC/NJM4558 types
- Clipping: NOS TFK SAL41 dual silicon diodes, housed in an unusual package that looks like a transistor
- Power supply: a vintage Motorola MC1478 op-amp used for PSU virtual ground buffering
- Low-end filter: moved to 15 Hz, from 0.7 Hz in the original circuit
Availability
The Bashtanka Muff was a rapid prototyping release with no demo available at launch; Guitar Pedal X pointed readers to a Big Muff 2 demo for sound samples1. With only 30 units made, it is a small-batch pedal in the same vein as Drunk Beaver's other drops, such as the Poltava DOA Muff, the Ivano-Frankivsk Fuzz and the Kupiansk Sub Fuzz.
Questions
What is the Drunk Beaver Bashtanka Muff?
It is a limited-run fuzz pedal from the Ukrainian builder Drunk Beaver, released on March 14, 2026 as Pedal Drop #37. It is based on the recent Electro-Harmonix Big Muff 2 op-amp fuzz circuit, with one added voicing toggle that switches between the standard Big Muff tone stack and a low-pass filter. Only 30 units were made, priced at $150 USD.
What does the toggle switch do?
The Filter/Muff EQ toggle selects between two voicings. The Muff position uses the standard Big Muff tone stack, which scoops the mids. The Filter position is a simple low-pass filter that runs louder and leaves the midrange in place, giving a fuller voice from the same circuit.
