The Effectrode Fire Bottle Tube Boost is a guitar pedal built in the UK by Effectrode, described by the maker as a tube boost and reviewed by MusicRadar as a magnetic pickup booster1. It sits in the boost family alongside pedals like the Effectrode Blue Bottle, and it is aimed at players who want extra level and body from a guitar's pickups without changing the character of the amp.
What it does
MusicRadar's review describes the Fire Bottle as working on three aspects of a guitar's sound: the resonant frequency, the gain and the tone2. In practice that means it is more than a straight volume push: it shapes where the guitar sits in the mix as well as lifting it. As a boost pedal it belongs to the same family as the units covered on the Boost Pedals page, and players comparing it with dirt pedals will find it sits closer to a clean lift than to the compression of overdrive pedals or the clipping of distortion pedals.
The gain on offer is substantial. MusicRadar put it plainly: "Up to a whopping 30dB of gain is available"2. Guitar World's reviewer, Trevor Curwen, noted the same figure and added a detail experienced players will recognize: "this has up to 30dB of gain available, but the tone control is basically a 1940s Fender Harvard amp tone control"3. That tone circuit, with internal 'Q' adjustment, gives the pedal a vintage-flavored way of shaping treble rather than a modern tilt control3.
