The Eleca Effects EFZ-3 Fuzz is a fuzz effects pedal, the distortion-adjacent effect that clips a guitar signal into a thick, buzzing sustain. It sits at the very low end of the market: the reviewer who covered it described it as a "sub $30 fuzz" when writing about it in March 20171.
Build and controls
The EFZ-3 departs from the usual budget-pedal look. Pedal of the Day's reviewer, Coe S., described "a nice metal enclosure with a decent paint job on it, chicken head pointer knobs and an actual cool-sounding fuzz"1. Chicken head pointers, the arrow-shaped knobs familiar from old Fuzzrite-style pedals, make the knob positions readable at a glance on a dark stage. The metal housing also sets it apart from the plastic boxes common at this price.
What reviewers said
The published coverage of the EFZ-3 is a single review, from Pedal of the Day in March 2017. Its verdict was measured but positive for the money1:
"Now, I'm not saying its the most versatile or ground breaking fuzz out there, but it's got a few pleasantly good sounds"
The reviewer added that the pedal could grow a cult following, would make a good platform for circuit modifications, and was a good cheap gift, judging its overall value and sound well above the "cheap plastic pedals with subpar tone" typically found at that price1.
