The Expandora Forbidden Fuzz is a fuzz pedal built from "a rib of that original (and evidently inspiring) circuit", according to Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio, who describes it as "A monster Fuzz machine with amazing tone sculpting capabilities!"1 It belongs to the wider family of fuzz pedals and carries the name of the cult vintage Expandora, bought by the US company that now builds it.1
Where it came from
The Forbidden Fuzz carries two tone-altering toggle switches on its face, giving players a way to reshape the fuzz character beyond the footswitch itself.1
Controls and how it plays
The Voltz knob changes the voltage fed to the circuit, creating more instability and gated tones at lower levels and fuller, more sustaining fuzz when turned all the way up.1
Two tone-altering toggle switches shape the fuzz character. With both toggles to the left, you get the same fuzz tone as the company's Expandora Vintage Reissue with both toggles left.1
One playing trait stands out from the maker's description: "And unlike many other Fuzz pedals, this one is super responsive to riding the volume control on your guitar."1 That makes it a candidate for players who clean up a fuzz from the guitar rather than the pedal.
