The Board Member is a CV/expression controlled voltage sag pedal from Fairfield Circuitry. Instead of processing your guitar signal the way a conventional expression pedal setup does, it takes a bipolar control voltage or expression input and uses it to alter how a pedal behaves. Fairfield describes the result as "voltage controlling voltage. A new, much more annoying way of patching signals together."1
What it does
The pedal accepts a bipolar CV or expression signal, meaning a voltage that can swing in either direction, and uses it to change pedal behavior. Fairfield's own description of what that produces: "Bipolar CV/expression to either flake out or come alive. Unexpected fuzz sounds, chirps and weird decays abound."1
In practice, that puts it in the same family as fuzz and experimental effects: the voltage sag it introduces can push a pedal into distorted, unstable territory, with sounds that shift as the control voltage moves. Players already using CV or expression sources, whether a dedicated expression pedal or a modular setup, patch into it to steer those changes in real time.1
The Board Member was listed as sold out on Fairfield Circuitry's product page as of 25 October 2026.1
