Fjord Fuzz Midgard

Fuzz

The Fjord Fuzz Midgard is a fuzz pedal with a built-in preamp and a Translator circuit for non-guitar sources. It is aimed at players who want a fuzz that also behaves well in front of synths, drum machines, laptops and tape decks, not only a guitar.1

What it does

The pedal has two sides. The preamp runs the signal through a Texas Instruments op-amp, which Delicious Audio's Brent P. Gladless described as "clean as bottled water," and then through what he called "a beat-up old transformer choke." The fuzz side is described as warm, thick and not harsh.1

The Translator is the part that sets the Midgard apart from a straight guitar fuzz. It is what lets the pedal take line-level and non-instrument sources without falling apart, as Gladless put it: "Synths. Drum machines. Laptops. That old tape deck you keep meaning to fix."1

Where it sits in the Fjord Fuzz range

Fjord Fuzz has built its name on fuzz-first designs, from the compact Berserk V2 to fuzz-and-vibe combinations like the SOL Fuzz-Vibe and the Frøy Resly-Vibe. The Midgard extends that range toward studio and electronic sources, pairing the fuzz with a preamp rather than with modulation.
