The Fjord Fuzz MIME II is a compact reverb pedal with three voicings built on a digital feedback circuit: an AI-infused metallic, plate-like mode; a dynamic, touch-sensitive room-like mode; and a spring reverb mode. It is the second version of the MIME, which Fjord Fuzz first released in December 2023, and it launched with preorders at $249 in two colorways1. Guitar Pedal X's reviewer Stefan Karlsson summed it up as "Three stellar reverbs onboard - where all of them sound superb"2.

The three reverb voicings

The pedal's modes are selected with a 3-way toggle on the top edge2:

ModeVoicing
AAI-infused lush, metallic and clangy plate-like reverb
BHuman-designed dynamic, touch-sensitive room-like reverb
CSpring reverb

Mode A is described as characterized by "lush, yet metallic, clingy feedback, this mode offers a beautiful mixture of old and new," blending hints of plate and spring with shimmery, synthy harmonics for a rich yet abrasive ambience, and its feedback function is described as destructive1. Mode B is the human-designed counterpart: a dynamic, touch-sensitive room-like reverb1. The spring voicing is new to the MIME II, added by Daniel Thornhill's reworked AI-infused reverb design2.

The AI connection is real but limited: ChatGPT made suggestions for the original pedal's modes, which then still needed to be fully coded up by Fjord Fuzz's DSP specialist, Daniel Thornhill1.

Controls and footswitches

The MIME II keeps its control set small2:

  • Mode: 3-way toggle on the top edge, selecting the three voicings
  • Feedback: pushes the reverb toward oscillation
  • Dry/Wet Mix: blends the effected and clean signal
  • Max Feedback footswitch (momentary): held down for maximum feedback
  • On/Bypass footswitch: engages or bypasses the effect

MIME versus MIME II

The MIME II is an upgrade and reboot of the original MIME Reverb, with an extended range and the new third spring reverb mode1. One change worth knowing: in the previous model the feedback circuit was analog, while in the MIME II it is digital1. The pedal also moved to the 3-way mode toggle on the top edge in place of the earlier arrangement2.

The MIME II is a mono pedal. Guitar Pedal X's reviewer called it "Obviously a mono device - so not entirely suited to my rig - but still sounds hugely impressive"2.

The MIME II was announced in July 2024, available for preorder on the Fjord Fuzz webstore at $249 and due at international dealers imminently1. By the end of 2024, Guitar Pedal X listed it at $249 among the year's spatial and time-based effects2. Fjord Fuzz later built on the MIME II's spring voicing in the Fjord Fuzz FJÆR, a standalone spring reverb pedal derived from the Dovre fuzz-verb2.

Questions

Is the Fjord Fuzz MIME II mono or stereo?

Yes, it is a mono pedal. Guitar Pedal X's reviewer Stefan Karlsson noted it is a mono device, which he said made it not entirely suited to his own stereo rig, though he still found it sounded hugely impressive. Players running stereo setups should plan to use it on a mono signal path or on one side of a stereo chain.

What is the difference between the MIME and the MIME II?

The MIME II is an upgraded version of the original MIME reverb, which Fjord Fuzz released in December 2023. The second version adds a third Spring Reverb voicing, extends the range of the circuit, and replaces the earlier model's controls with a 3-way mode toggle. The feedback circuit also changed: it was analog on the original MIME and is digital on the MIME II.

What does the Max Feedback footswitch do?

The MIME II has two footswitches: an On/Bypass switch and a momentary Max Feedback switch. The Max Feedback switch pushes the reverb's feedback toward oscillation while held, for self-generating, runaway ambience that returns to normal when you release it.

Is the Fjord Fuzz MIME II analog or digital?

The MIME II is a digital reverb pedal. Its feedback circuit, the part that generates the repeats and ambience, is digital, whereas the same circuit in the original MIME was analog. Guitar Pedal X reported the change when the pedal launched in July 2024.

What colors does the MIME II come in?

The MIME II is available in two colorways: the usual Black and Gold variant, and a White and Red variant. Both were offered at the $249 preorder price when the pedal launched.
