The Flattley Valkyrie is an analog chorus pedal from Flattley Guitar Pedals, a British company, built around bucket brigade delay (BBD) chips, the same short-delay analog chip family that powered the classic chorus pedals of the early 1980s. Guitar Pedal X reviewed it on 30 August 2024 as "an entirely new Analog BBD Chorus circuit" and called it "a really instantly satisfying simple and elegant chorus"1. Delicious Audio describes it as the company's take on the vintage analog modulation pedals of the '80s, covering both chorus and flanger styles2.
What it does to your sound
The Valkyrie's controls are simple: Rate and Depth, covering what Guitar Pedal X describes as slow, moderate and full flutter settings1. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio writes that "You'll find a classic chorus sound with Depth and Speed knob set at 50%, while faster rates and lower depth will deliver" tones reminiscent of a Leslie speaker and a Uni-Vibe2. He also notes the pedal is "improved with a wider depth and sonic range" compared with the vintage pedals that inspired it2.
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson expected a brighter CE-3 style profile from the chipset, but heard something else1:
"what I heard was a pretty classic and vintage CE-2 style voicing - perfectly balanced, richly textured and warm."
He adds that it "suits 80's chorus sounds from The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Joy Division"1. For context, the Boss CE-2 it references is a mono analog chorus with what TONEHOME calls "a remarkable mid-boost"3, and its circuit has been documented in detail by Anasounds as a working analog chorus design4.
From the CE-2 chipset to a new circuit
The Valkyrie is the second iteration of the model, and the new circuit marks a change of chips. The earlier version used the 3007 + 3101 BBD chipset of the Boss CE-2, particularly the original Matsushita / Panasonic chips, which the Guitar Pedal X reviewer described as "now night impossible to get"1. The current pedal instead uses the 3207 + 3102 chipset associated with the Boss CE-3, but tuned by Paul Flattley for that balanced, warm, richly textured CE-2 style voicing1. Contemporary analog BBD designs commonly run on modern chip equivalents, such as the CoolAudio V3207D and V3102D used in most current analog BBD devices5.
Because the Valkyrie is a second-iteration circuit, listings and reviews of the earlier Valkyrie describe a different chipset and voicing. The two versions are not interchangeable in sound or parts.
An earlier version of the pedal is covered separately on the Flatley Pedals Valkyrie Vintage Chorus page.
Price and availability
Guitar Pedal X gave the price at review as £259 / $349 / €3191, and the pedal appeared in the site's December 2024 roundup of new modulation and utility pedals at £259 / $3496. It is sold through select international dealers as well as the Flattley webstore1.
Looks and build
Guitar Pedal X describes the enclosure as a blue 2-tone paint job with suspended metal flakes, engraved knobs, a metallic footswitch topper, a halo surround footswitch LED, and graphics by Phoebe Flattley1.

Questions
Is the Flattley Valkyrie analog or digital?
It is analog. Guitar Pedal X describes it as a vintage style analog BBD chorus, and Delicious Audio places it among the vintage analog modulation pedals of the 1980s. Bucket brigade delay chips process the signal entirely in the analog domain, which is the same approach the classic Boss choruses of that era took.
Who designed the Flattley Valkyrie?
Paul Flattley of Flattley Guitar Pedals. According to Guitar Pedal X, he tuned the circuit's 3207 plus 3102 chipset for a balanced, warm, richly textured CE-2 style voicing, even though the chipset itself is the one associated with the Boss CE-3.
How much does the Flattley Valkyrie cost in the US?
Guitar Pedal X listed the price at $349 USD when the pedal was reviewed in August 2024, alongside £259 GBP and €319 EUR. A December 2024 Guitar Pedal X roundup repeated the £259 / $349 figure.
What bucket brigade chips does the Flattley Valkyrie use?
It uses the 3207 plus 3102 chipset, which Guitar Pedal X associates with the Boss CE-3. The previous Valkyrie used the 3007 plus 3101 chipset of the CE-2, particularly the original Matsushita / Panasonic chips, which the reviewer described as now nearly impossible to get.
