The Fortin Grind BlackOut is an exciter pedal with boost and amp channel switching. Fortin describes it as taking "some of the most overlooked and important frequencies and excites them," and says the pedal's low noise floor and high input impedance let "every nuance of your playing and instrument character come through unaltered."1
Remote jack, power and impedance
The Grind BlackOut's side remote 1/4-inch jack is for channel switching, with a mini slide switch that changes polarity, which changes what channel on your amp receives the signal. That makes the pedal usable as an amp controller as well as a tone shaper.1
Power comes from a 9V DC center pin negative, fully regulated external adapter or power supply, which is not included, drawing 25mA. The input impedance is approximately 4.7M and the output impedance approximately 1.5K.1
The Grind BlackOut needs its own 9V DC center-negative supply, which is not in the box. Budget for the 25mA draw when planning a daisy chain or isolated power setup.
Bypass and switching
A single Stomp switch is the true bypass switch, described by Fortin as an Industry Standard 3DPT true bypass mechanical stomp. When the pedal is off, it is out of the signal path entirely.1

The Grind and the 33
Fortin makes a related line of boost and exciter pedals, including the Fortin 33, the Fortin Mini 33, the Fortin Mini GRIND and the Fortin N2O Micro Boost. Of the Grind and the 33, Fortin says: "The are both exciters, but each excite different frequencies!"1 For more in this family, see Boost Pedals.
