The Frana Effects Moon Land is a tremolo pedal, described by Pedal of the Day as "a tremolo with extra oomph." It is modeled after the VOX Repeater, and Frana Effects built it around the original VOX circuitry while adding an Intensity control and a different type of Depth knob. The result, the reviewer wrote, is "a more percussive, heavy-type tone than a lot of other tremolo effects."1
What it does
The Moon Land covers a wide range of ground for a tremolo. Pedal of the Day described it as "going easily from gentle and smooth to choppy and pulsating," giving off "a wide array of tremolo and vibrato-infused sounds." That puts it among the more versatile entries in the tremolo pedal field, and its vibrato-flavored territory overlaps with what dedicated vibrato pedals do.1
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rate | Adjusts the tremolo's speed1 |
| Intensity | Added by Frana Effects on top of the original VOX circuitry1 |
| Depth | A different type of Depth knob than the original VOX design1 |
There is also an added LED that showcases the tremolo effect's Speed. Pedal of the Day noted it is there "for easy viewing in a live, on-stage situation," so you can see the pulse of the effect under stage lighting.1
What reviewers said
Pedal of the Day's verdict, from its 2017 review:
"Fun, bold and experimental, this is a great pedal to explore and find new uses for, even if you somehow think you're not a fan of tremolo effects."1
