The Fuzzrocious Big Fella is a pedal that can deliver overdrive, distortion, gated fuzz, and feedback, all in one BB-sized box1. At heart it is an overdrive/distortion pedal with "benefits," in Delicious Audio's phrasing: the extra gears come from a gated fuzz voice and a feedback function you can dial in for self-oscillation at high gain1. It runs at 9V or 18V, the higher voltage giving extra headroom1.

What it does and how it is controlled

The main controls are Volume, Drive and Gain, the standard overdrive/distortion set1. Around them, the Big Fella adds two things most drives do not have. A toggle switch selects between the more saturated and warmer Li'l Fella mode and the other mode, called "Demon"1. And a feedback function, set through an internal trimmer, lets the pedal feed back on itself, with "even crazier results, in particular at high gain settings" according to Delicious Audio1.

The pedal sports a surprising 3-footswitch layout, which lets the drive, fuzz and feedback functions be switched separately rather than as one block1. Stefan Karlsson of Guitar Pedal X summed it up this way:

"Besides the somewhat unusual Footswitch arrangement - this is a very straightforward 2-in-1 device - which takes you thr..."
Stefan Karlsson, Guitar Pedal X2

He went on to call it "a really potent gain machine with several gears overall"2.

From the Oh See Demon to the Big Fella

The Big Fella is a gain pedal from Fuzzrocious, and it stands out from the maker's smaller single-stomp designs in one obvious way: "the Big Fella sports a surprising 3-footswitch layout"1. Three footswitches on a pedal of this type is unusual, and it shapes how the pedal is used on a board, with each switch taking on its own role rather than the single on/off stomp of a typical drive.

The circuit's OCD lineage places the Big Fella among the many drives built on that hard-clipping topology, a family covered in more depth on our Overdrive Pedals and Distortion Pedals pages. Other Fuzzrocious gain pedals with a similar multi-voice approach include the Fuzzrocious LunaReclipse, with its rotary selection of clipping options, and the Fuzzrocious Dark Driving V3.

Price and availability

Guitar Pedal X reported the Big Fella in May 2024 as available in various dealer colourways. The Big Fella Axe and You Shall Receive variant is $180 from that webstore, while the Joe's Pedals variant was listed at $179; the two press figures differ by a dollar2.

The two reported prices come from different dealer colourways and do not agree exactly: $180 for the Axe and You Shall Receive variant and $179 for the Joe's Pedals variant, both as reported in May 20242.

Questions

Can the Fuzzrocious Big Fella run at 18V?

Yes. Delicious Audio describes the Big Fella as a circuit that runs at 9V or 18V, with the higher voltage giving extra headroom. Running it at 18V can be useful when you want the overdrive and distortion sides to stay cleaner before they break up, while 9V is the standard option for most pedalboard power supplies.

What is the difference between the Li'l Fella and Demon modes?

The Big Fella carries two voicings drawn from two earlier Fuzzrocious pedals. A toggle switch selects the Li'l Fella mode, which Delicious Audio describes as more saturated and warmer, while the other mode is called Demon, after the Demon Drive the circuit grew out of. Both are extended versions of the same OCD-derived hard-clipper circuit.

How much does the Fuzzrocious Big Fella cost?

Guitar Pedal X reported the Big Fella in May 2024 in various dealer colourways, with the Axe and You Shall Receive variant listed at $180 and the Joe's Pedals variant at $179. The two press listings differ by a dollar, so the price depends on which dealer colourway you choose.

How do you control the feedback on the Big Fella?

Feedback is controlled through an internal trimmer, which Delicious Audio says allows for even crazier results, in particular at high gain settings. Alongside the trimmer, the pedal's main controls are Volume, Drive and Gain, and its three-footswitch layout lets you bring the fuzz and feedback effects in and out separately from the base drive.
